The castle was inhabited by the Lords of Salbadingen, including the knight Peregrinus, whose participation as a witness in a land exchange of the Count of Hohenberg represents the first documentary mention of Salmendingen in 1245.The beginning of the castle's decay is relatively early. In 1386 the castle was already called "Burgstall", means it was already ruinous. The decline was accelerated by the fact that the castle was used as a quarry, as is explicitly attested for the construction of a fire pond by the town in 1791. A bench invites you to linger.
