This is where it all began: the name of a mountain developed into that of a castle, then into that of a noble family, then into that of a dynasty and finally into that of an entire era.
The initiative to create the documentation room for Staufer history came from the town of Göppingen in 1977. This year is known as the "Staufer Year", in memory of the impressive exhibition "The Staufers and their time" in the Württemberg State Museum in Stuttgart. The exhibition space has been redesigned every ten years or so, most recently in 2009. The content of the current exhibition "The Staufers" was conceived by the team from the archives and museums of the town of Göppingen, while Ranger Design from Stuttgart was responsible for the design. In November 2009, the redesigned documentation room was honoured as an "Exemplary Local History Museum" by the Working Group for the Preservation of Local History in the administrative district of Stuttgart.
