Description
On the Neckar Island in Esslingen am Neckar, an ecological paradise was created over nine decades through the work of idealistic nature lovers of the Aquarium and Terrarium Association "Nymphaea" Esslingen e.V. 1905. The circular path with a length of about 800 metres takes visitors idyllically through 2.9 hectares of grounds past plants and animals. From "A" for “Ara” (macaw) to "Z" for “Ziege” (goat), you will find a wide variety of animal species at the Nymphaea. Special highlights are the bird show with a large population of exotic and native birds as well as the spacious aquarium and terrarium exhibitions. The Nymphaea is home to approximately 600 animals; not counting hundreds of thousands of bees, the fish in the lakes and many native animals. The Nymphaea is also home to well over 1,000 shrubs and trees. Some have just sprouted from seed, others are nearly 80-year-old giants 30 to 45 metres tall. From March onwards, the park is transformed into a green landscape. The association constantly nurtures and cares for the trees. On the tour you will also pass various specimens of "Trees of the Year". These are marked with signs. If the children have not yet gathered enough impressions from their tour of the park, they can let off steam in the playground. Food and drink are provided in the club restaurant. Here you will also find toilets and nappy-changing facilities. In the summer months, you can enjoy a barbecue in the large beer garden beneath the old trees. The entire Nymphaea Zoo is handicap-accessible.
