Description
Activities
At the Leisure Centre you'll find a very nice mini-golf course, a tennis court, a large and well-equipped playground, an outdoor chess set and a boules area with two courts. The swimming baths are not only inviting in cold temperatures, but also draw in the crowds in summer with a lawn for sunbathing and a sun terrace.
In Herrischried you can practice as much sports as you want. At the outdoor facilities of the HWS Sports and Adventure World you can learn archery, axe- and knife-throwing and with skill conquer the low-rope course. The pleasures of the open countryside, beautiful panoramas, intact nature, and pure and healthy air are on offer at the well-designed Nordic Walking Centre.
Herrischried is especially recommended for a varied hiking holiday. Here you can take long and short hikes in remote areas or follow well-known wide hiking trails like the Murgtal Valley Path. You can enjoy the silence alone or follow the explanations of a nature guide - there are no limits to the attractive tours that can be designed.
A very popular hiking destination is the 30 metre-high Gugelturm lookout tower in Giersbach. On a viewing platform of 16 metres high, you'll have a view of the entire Hotzenwald Forest, and on clear days even the Swiss Alps are visible. You'll be welcomed at the Gugelstüble bar if you need a well-deserved rest.
When winter covers the landscape with a white blanket of snow, three ski lifts offer unlimited skiing fun. The German Ski Association (DSV)-certified Nordic Walking Centre is a must for winter sports fans. Its network of cross-country ski trails covers more than 50 kilometres and some stretches are certified by the International Ski Federation (FIS). Specially cleared winter hiking trails offer the opportunity for short walks or extended tours in the deep-snow-covered landscape. You can also book guided snowshoe hikes. The tobogganing slopes at the Herrischried and Wehrhalden skilift provide fast-paced fun for adults and children alike.
The Leisure Centre provides an ice sports arena which all skaters can enjoy. The indoor pool is integrated into the ice sports arena and is an inviting prospect when temperatures plunge. Warm up with a swim or relax on the "vitality sun beds".
Culture
A very special highlight of a visit to Herrischried is the Klausenhof Open-Air museum at Herrischried-Grossherrischwand. The Klausenhof dates from the year 1424 and is therefore one of the oldest buildings in the Black Forest. The open-air museum provides an ideal setting for the annual theatre festival of the Klausenhof Festival Association.
The various markets, such as the arts and crafts market, also contribute to cultural life in Herrischried. In Dirk Bürklin's workshop, directly opposite the Klausenhof, the old tradition of glassblowing continues.
