The name was given simply to the former wasteland area, which was known as the “Great Heumaden” above Calws, in an easterly direction. The new settlement originally served as a place of residence for the soldiers, who served in a federal institution at that time in Calw. These former barracks walls are now known as the location of the German special unit Kommando Spezialkräfte and as a completely separate area it has practically nothing to do with heumaden anymore.
Today, the Heumaden residential area is preferred by families with children, which gives the town and its inhabitants a social balance. The optimal location on the Gäu plateau as well as the convenient connection to the nearby larger cities are almost ideal. Practically from every direction you can reach one of the surrounding county towns without any major expenditure of time. Accordingly, cosmopolitan people with a distinct social environment live here.
