Heidelberg Literature Festival feeLit
The Heidelberg Literature Festival feeLit, formerly Heidelberger Literaturtage, has been a cultural and literary institution in the Rhine-Neckar region for 30 years.
Event details
With its striking mirror tent on Heidelberg University Square, the festival stands for the exchange of ideas and, of course, literature - whether poetic, technical or simply entertaining.
Internationalization of the festival
In 2023, the festival was realigned for the first time and organized under the new name and design as "feeLit - International Literature Festival Heidelberg" and was also able to attract a large number of renowned international authors. The winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, Tsitsi Dangarembga, and the winner of the International Booker Prize, Geetanjali Shree, were guests in Heidelberg and engaged in discussions with Heidelberg's urban society about literature and politics in a globalized world. Local authors also found an audience during a reading marathon and were thus able to present the rather unknown gems that the region has to offer.
30 years - a special anniversary
For its 30th anniversary, feeLit would like to celebrate reading and exciting literature in Heidelberg and once again experience international themes and literature, thus providing new impetus for the festival in the future.
The longer duration of the festival will turn the Spiegelzelt on University Square into a meeting place, involve the people of Heidelberg in the festival and enable new forms of events.
Inspiring enthusiasm for reading - the school reading program
An important part of the festival are the school readings, where school classes can experience readings by international authors in person. Last year, they were able to talk to Austrian author Julya Rabinowich about her book "Dazwischen: We", they were able to talk about the topics of fleeing and arriving in Germany. The popular children's book author Harald Kiesel was also able to share his passion for reading and literature with children in Heidelberg with his innovative "Kinder.Buch.Show".
In this anniversary year, the school reading program is of particular importance. Together with Heidelberg's reading enthusiasts, the festival aims to spark enthusiasm for the written word in various schools and school types. To this end, the children's and young adult literature icon Cornelia Funke has already been recruited for a digital school reading.
