Event details
ORNAMENTA 2024 is a new cultural format that picks up 35 years after Ornamenta 1, which was held in Pforzheim's Jewellery Museum in 1989, with the former jewellery art exhibition featuring contemporary positions. The new Ornamenta, which is to be held as a triennial in future, has been extended to the entire northern Black Forest region and will offer visitors numerous opportunities to experience contemporary art and culture, curated by Katharina Wahl, Willem Schenk and Jules van den Langenberg, over 13 weekends between 5 July and 29 September 2024. This will take place in locations that are not generally designed for exhibitions, but have special characteristics and are of particular importance to the people of the northern Black Forest region: the former Forum König Karls Bad bathhouse in Bad Wildbad, the former silver mine in Neubulach, the Zeller-Mörike-Garten in Nagold and the Wildpark in Pforzheim. In addition to the curated programme, all associations, institutions, organisations and citizens are also invited to respond to the curated Ornamenta programme with their own offerings. This at the Ornamenta Lust programme level. The aim of the programme is to focus visitors' attention on the Northern Black Forest with all its special facets.
During ORNAMENTA 2024, five themed communities will bring together contributions on an international, national and local level to offer an insight into relevant and lasting artistic development in the Northern Black Forest region and to place local aspects in a global context. The thematic communities of Ornamenta remove the established boundaries between Pforzheim, Calw, Freudenstadt and the Enzkreis and replace them with five thematic communities. These new municipalities ornamentalise the Northern Black Forest region in an unexpected way. The names of the five thematic municipalities are: Bad Databrunn, Zum Eros, Schmutzige Ecke, Inhalatorium and Solartal.
In addition to group exhibitions of the individual thematic communities, there will be solo exhibitions of various artists, public artworks will be created that will permanently enrich the region, and there will be various symposia at which the themes identified by the curators as important for the people will also be explored in depth outside of the presentations.
The exhibitions of the curatorial programme level with contemporary positions by artists from 12 European nations are open to visitors from Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm, and the Ornamenta Lust programme also invites you to visit beyond this time.
