Stone Age people like the Neanderthal man already lived in the caves in the Lone Valley. They roamed around and hunted Ice-Age animals like the mammoth.
We want to trace the Neanderthal a little and hike from the Lindenau through the forest to the Bockstein Cave, which lies on a rocky promontory above the valley. The wide view would also have pleased the Neanderthal to keep an eye out for prey. Our next destination is the Hohlenstein at the edge of the valley floor. Here archaeologists have discovered the legendary "Löwenmensch" (Lion-man), a figure carved from mammoth ivory. We stay in the valley and walk along the river to the Vogelherd Archäopark. Here we can try out Ice Age hunting techniques for ourselves. Via Stetten and through the forest we return to Lindenau.

In Lindenau is a Geopark information point with an exhibition "Cave of the Lion-man" and a restaurant with a beautiful beer garden.
