Description
Directions
The tour starts at the round building of the New Globe on the Kocher island of Unterwöhrd. On the Kocher-Jagst cycle path, you leave the old town centre of Schwäbisch Hall on the left-hand side downstream through the Roter Steg and Mauerstraße past the Solebad swimming pool and out of town.
Follow the Kocher-Jagst cycle path signs as far as Künzelsau (approx. 32 km).
The cycle path almost always runs close to the river and is characterised by small villages, meadows and forests. After the village of Kocherstetten, "Schloss Stetten" is located on the right-hand side of the valley. In Künzelsau, the route crosses the pedestrian suspension bridge and the large car park to the town centre.
At the stone bridge, turn left into Hauptstraße. This leads uphill past the old town hall. At the upper end, turn half-left into "Oberer Bach" and then straight on up Gaisbacher Straße. Above the cemetery, turn left at the corner of "Seestraße" onto a tarmac footpath and cycle path.
From here, please follow the white signs with the green wheel. You are now on a tarmac former railway line and the route climbs steadily but moderately uphill for 3.5 km to Haag. This ascent along the Künzbach stream is easily manageable for any experienced cyclist.
You cycle through Kupferzell over a cycle bridge that crosses the B19. 1 km further on, you come to a cycle crossing at a former railway caretaker's cottage. There are three options here:
1. if you continue straight on for 1.5 km, you will come to Waldenburg railway station. From here you can also take the train back to Schwäbisch Hall.
2. turn half right at this junction to Waldenburg, 5 km away. You will be rewarded for the arduous climb with a marvellous view over the Hohenlohe plain from the "Hohenlohe balcony".
3. turn left towards Westernach to Schwäbisch Hall, 20 km away.
Schwäbisch Hall, 20 kilometres away.
At the entrance to Westernach, turn left into "Lindenstraße" and then take the first right towards Beltersrot. 500 metres after leaving Westernach, turn left towards Neu-Kupfer. At the entrance to Neu-Kupfer, turn right into "Vier-EichenWeg" and then left at Velag into "Bahnhofstraße". At the end of "Bahnhofstraße", turn right through the railway subway and 50 metres further on turn left towards Schwäbisch Hall.
Through extensive blackcurrant plantations, forests and
cereal fields you come to Gailenkirchen. Turn
turn right, cycle through the village and then follow the cycle path
the cycle path that takes you directly to the Hohenloher Freilandmuseum in Wackershofen. This is definitely worth a visit
and is open daily in the summer months (www.wackershofen.de).
In addition to around 70 original reconstructed buildings, almost extinct old breeds of domestic animals such as the Swabian-Hall swine and craft demonstrations bear witness to the life and work of our ancestors.
work of our ancestors.
You return to Schwäbisch Hall via the village of Gottwollshausen. When descending the very steep "Gottwollshäuser Steige", please dismount or drive very carefully. This leads down to the busy main road at the "Hotel Hohenlohe". Use the subway before the main road, turn right and after 150 metres through the Weilertor gate down to the Kocher.
