Directions
The tour, which is asphalted throughout except for a few hundred metres, starts at the round building of the New Globe on the Kocher island of Unterwöhrd.
On the Kocher-Jagst cycle path, you leave the old town of Schwäbisch Hall upstream through the city park Acker anlagen to its end at the level of the fairground/car park in the suburb of Steinbach. Here you turn left over a covered wooden bridge into the town and then immediately right again to Hessentaler Straße.
right again to Hessentaler Straße. Turn left here until you reach the centre of Steinbach.
Now take the Kleincomburger Weg to the right
steeply uphill to Kleincomburg Castle. This Romanesque
basilica with a single-nave choir is unfortunately not open to the public. Once you reach the top, you also have a wonderful view of the
Großcomburg and the old town centre of Schwäbisch Hall.
From here, please follow the square white signs with a green wheel.
Once you reach the top of the valley, the route takes you across an open, undulating landscape to Michelbach an der Bilz. After the church and the cemetery, the route climbs very steeply for approx. 2 km up to the wooded ridge of the Limpurger Berge. The tour continues through the shady forest on the gently undulating "coal road". At a forest lake, benches invite you to take a break. The route continues via Geifertshofen to Bühlerzell.
From here, follow the Bühler downstream to Bühlertann, which was first mentioned as "Tann" in 1228. Between Bühlertann and Bühlerzell, the "Tannenburg" castle is located on the hill on the right near the village of Kottspiel. This
castle complex from the 12th century is one of the best preserved shield wall castles in Baden-Württemberg.
The route continues to Obersontheim with its castle, built by the Schenken von Limpurg family, which is well worth seeing.
In the village centre, turn right to Untersontheim and on to Ummenhofen. In the centre of the village, take a sharp right to the blue water tower and continue to Vellberg. Here, at the entrance to the village, turn right down Hörgershofstraße to the old town centre. A visit to this medieval
old town with its walkable battlements and the "Stöckenburg" castle.
At the beginning of the town, you can also turn right to Großcomburg Castle, one of Schwäbisch Hall's main sights. The Romanesque wheel chandelier in St Nicholas' Church is a work of art of international standing. Also worth a visit is the free walkway that surrounds the entire complex and offers beautiful views of the town. Just after the Kocherbrücke bridge, turn right again into the town park, which you follow downstream to Schwäbisch Hall's old town centre.
