Description
The "Wurmlinger Kapellenwegle" enchants with a varied route and a wealth of scenic experiences over a short distance.
The trail leads through fragrant orchards, past picturesque vineyards with terraced steep slopes and wide juniper fields up to the Kapellenberg with its striking summit chapel. The hiker has great views throughout - on one side over the Ammertal valley and the neighbouring eaves of the Schönbuch Nature Park and on the other side over the wide Neckar valley to the Albtrauf and the silhouette of Hohenzollern Castle.
The highlight in the truest sense of the word is the Wurmlinger Chapel, from where you can enjoy an almost panoramic view. If the walking tour is too short for you, you can switch to the premium walking trail "Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle" below the chapel via the so-called "Sattel" and combine the two neighbouring walking trails into one hiking trail.
Author's recommendation
The chapel can be visited on Sundays from May to October between 10 am and 4 pm.
Directions
The tour starts at the chapel car park in Rottenburg-Wurmlingen and initially leads relatively flat towards Hirschau. After a hairpin bend to the left, the path climbs slowly and reaches the "Hohenzollernblick" viewpoint. From there, on a clear day, the castle can be recognised as a silhouette on the horizon. A little later - in the middle of the wine terraces - the information stations of the educational wine trail follow. After a few more metres in altitude, you reach the summit of the Kapellenberg and thus the highest point of the tour: the Wurmlinger Chapel. The path down to the car park runs along the north side of the Kapellenberg and connects to the Hirschauer Spitzbergwegle premium walking trail.
Equipment
No special equipment necessary. Suitable footwear is recommended.
Safety information
The path is signposted and accessible on both sides throughout.
Please do not leave the signposted paths. The flora and fauna along the way will thank you! Please note that there are small diversions twice a year on the northern slope of the Kappellenberg due to sheep grazing. The diversions route is signposted on site. We ask for your understanding.
Some of our premium (walking) trails run along unsurfaced natural paths. On the one hand, this means you can enjoy walking, but on the other hand, these sections of the path may be soggy and somewhat slippery after rainfall - especially if there are a lot of visitors out and about. Please be prepared for this: either by wearing suitable footwear or by giving the paths a few days to dry out.
