Hohenzollern Cycle Route - Stage 2: Bebenhausen (Tübingen) to Hechingen
Medium
On the second day, cyclists first pass the bishop's town of Rottenburg am Neckar. Even the Romans could not resist this spot of earth and founded the town of "Sumelocenna". With its cathedral, partially preserved city wall and many half-timbered houses, Rottenburg is still a real eye-catcher today. Arrived in Hechingen, the cream-coloured Villa Eugenia awaits. It is considered the last residence of the princes of Hohenzollern-Hechingen and was built as a summer pleasure garden house. From the stuccoed rotunda, the view extends into the picturesque princely garden. From afar, the mighty Hohenzollern Castle can be seen high on the 855-metre-high mountain of the same name. It was the ancestral seat of the Prussian royal family and the Princes of Hohenzollern. The charisma of "Swabian Neuschwanstein" now reaches far beyond the Alb. The collection of the Hohenzollern State Museum in Hechingen shows pieces from the Palaeolithic Age to the present day.
