Besonderheiten der Tour
Aussichtsreich / Kulturelle Highlights
Beschreibung
For explorers, two alternative routes offer additional highlights. The Güterstein Tour takes us over partly steep paths to the picturesque Alb plateau and back to Bad Urach. The Grafeneck Tour, with its minimal elevation changes, is ideal for families with children, providing varied and enjoyable experiences. However, the main focus remains on the primary route, the "Marbach Stud Farm Cycle Path."
We begin our journey either at the large parking lot of the Marbach State Stud or at the Marbach train station, which is serviced by the Swabian Alb Railway on weekends and public holidays (schedule available at www.bahnhof-muensingen.de). Right at the start, we face the challenge of the first climb to Grafeneck, where a visit to the memorial site is worthwhile. The route then continues with an impressive view over the horse paddocks toward Münsingen.
The descent into the Große Lauter Valley takes us across a picturesque bridge. Following the river, we head to Wasserstetten and can make a small detour to Dapfen if we need a quick break.
Next, we delve into the heart of the biosphere reserve, passing one of its core zones, where the landscape changes dramatically. A gentle ascent leads to the Stutenbrunnen, one of the oldest witnesses to the long and rich history of the Marbach State Stud. The route passes through open landscapes to Vorwerk Hau, which can be reached via a short detour from the main route. A stop in Offenhausen is highly recommended, especially at the Stud Museum and the historic monastery garden.
From there, we cycle through the picturesque Lonsingen Valley to the Breinsberg rest area, which features a barbecue spot. Meadows and hedgerows define the next stretch, leading through Albgut Oberer Lindenhof to Vorwerk Schafhaus.
An interestingly designed wild shrub collection awaits exploration on foot. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the wildlife enclosure at the Glems pumped-storage power plant, offering fascinating insights into local fauna. After circling the reservoir, the route takes us along an old avenue to the Gestütshof St. Johann.
Another avenue leads us to Vorwerk Fohlenhof, where we can observe foals up close. The path continues along the Albtrauf, offering breathtaking views over Bad Urach, before we make our way back to the starting point in Marbach.
