Signposting circular hiking trail no. 3
Description
Hike around Schwäbisch Hall on this circular trail and discover the Hohenlohe Open-Air Museum in Wackershofen.
Directions
The starting point is the market square, which you leave at the tourist information centre and head downstream along Neue Straße, marked with a green 3 on a white square. After the Henkersbrücke bridge, turn right into Lough Borough Weg and walk downstream past the Hotel Hohenlohe and brine baths.
After 100 metres you will come to a wooden bridge; continue straight ahead along the footpath and cross under the Johanniterbrücke bridge to reach Neumäuerstraße. After approx. 100 metres, cross the narrow concrete bridge (Salinensteg) and meet the Wilhelm Dürr hiking trail on the other side of the river. Continue left downstream to the Rippergbrücke, another old wooden bridge. You also cross this bridge and now walk steeply uphill past the fire brigade museum
to the Vogelholz.
The Heckmann pottery is on the left-hand side. Follow the footpath to Schleifbachklinge, pass it and after approx. 60 metres turn left up a steep forest path to Sülz.
At the end of the village, you will come to the K 2577.
along this road and after approx. 500m you reach the marked
the marked hiking trail 3 and follow this to the right to
Wackershofen and there to the open-air museum.
A break of several hours should be planned in the open-air museum so that you can take your time to look at the 70 original reconstructed buildings from the North Württemberg region. Old breeds of domestic animals can be marvelled at, and craft demonstrations and special activity days invite you in. Refreshments are available at the Roter Ochsen museum inn and, on summer weekends, at the Besenwirtschaft,

The way back starts at the museum entrance and leads through the centre of the village of Wackershofen to the signposted cycle path that runs parallel to the road. Follow this for 300 metres. Then turn right onto the field path, which leads you to the Kolping cross and the broad oak tree.
Now turn left, following the Swabian Albverein path (red cross), down past Breiteichsee lake to Breiteichstraße. Cross this road and you are now on the Schafbrunnenweg, which leads to the Schöneck transmitter mast.
At the transmission mast, turn left along the Höhenweg (beautiful view of the old town) down to Gottwollshäuser Steige and you will reach Johanniterstraße. Now turn left through the subway, then right past the Hotel Hohen lohe and through the Weilertor - one of the former town gates. Cross the Henkersbrücke bridge and Neue Straße to return to the starting point within a few minutes.
Alternatively, from the bus stop at the entrance to Wackershofen, you can also take the city bus, line 7, back to the town centre. The museum also has its own railway station on the Heilbronn-Schwäbisch Hall line.
