Description
This circular hiking trail first leads above Schwäbisch Hall and then down along the Kocher river back to Schwäbisch Hall.
Directions
The starting point is the market square, which you leave at the tourist information centre via Marktstraße, marked with a green 6 on a white background. At Säumarkt, continue straight ahead through Gelbinger Gasse. Particularly worth seeing are the Josenturm tower, the Gräterhaus and the bronze sculptures by Hans Seemann on the steps to the district administration office.
At the end of Gelbinger Gasse, turn left in the pedestrian subway at the very end to Heilbronner Straße and then right through the gate into the old Nikolai cemetery. In the cemetery, go straight ahead
and turn right in front of the funeral parlour, up the stairs and out into the Postgütle.
After a steep ascent, you reach a turning point.
From there, take a short, steep path to the right to the Teuchelsbrücke aqueduct. This structure from 1580 used to be part of the town's water supply. Spring water was channelled into a 25 cm wide
sandstone channel from Eltershofen to the old town centre.
Once you have crossed the bridge, the so-called Brunnenweg begins, which leads past the Evangelical Diaconia Centre and which you follow to the entrance to Breitenstein. After leaving the forest, turn left onto the Alte Steige, which you follow down to Gelbingen.
Shortly before the first houses, turn right down the steps and follow the Hofsteige to Untermünkheimer Straße.
Cross this road and walk past the former town hall to reach Neubergstraße and Hammerschmiedsweg. Now an idyllic path leads downstream past the former wine press to the wooden bridge at the hydroelectric power station.
After crossing the bridge, turn left upstream again. Always following the river, you come to the Dr Wilhelm Dürr hiking trail at Gelbingen before the Kocherbrücke bridge. At the beginning of Neumäuerstraße, turn left through the wooden covered Rippergbrücke bridge, then turn right and continue into town until you reach the narrow reinforced concrete bridge, the Salinensteg.
Cross this pedestrian bridge to reach Neumäuerstrasse.
street. Continue left upstream, cross under the Johanniterbrücke bridge, follow the footpath upstream and join the Loughborough Weg at the wooden bridge. The brine baths and the Hotel Hohenlohe are on the right. From here you have a beautiful view of the Kocherquartier shopping centre and the former prison, now the House of Education.
Continue straight ahead to the Henkersbrücke bridge. Cross this bridge and return to the market square via Neue Straße.
